“Heidelberg am Neuenheimer Ufer” by Friedrich Rottmann

Friedrich Rottmann(1768-1816), born and died in Heidelberg, was a drawing master at the Heidelberg University. Among other things he worked with the technique of etching and copper engraving. He is said to have had a talent for landscape art.

The magnificent painting of Heidelberg provides the proof for his artistic genius. Like the name of the painting it already tells here is portrayed the Neuenheim bank of Heidelberg. The applied technique is the contour etching which is followed by coloring with watercolors and coating paint. This landscape painting of Heidelberg is dated around 1800.
